5 minutes with Jamie Oldland

In our ‘5 minutes with’ series, we catch up with various members of our team to get a glimpse into their roles, journeys and lives outside of work. This time, we’re sitting down with Jamie Oldland, our Commercial Manager.

Tell us a bit about your role.

As the Commercial Manager, my role is diverse and dynamic. I oversee the commercial department, being involved with everything from the initial pipeline and winning work to the establishment and completion of new projects. My responsibilities don’t end there; I also manage aftercare requirements and develop our business’s standard commercial templates. It’s all about ensuring compatibility across departments and identifying any commercial risks.

What’s been your journey with Truman?

I joined Truman in 2022 after a stint outside the construction industry, working with a development funding company. Since joining, I’ve been instrumental in doubling the size of our commercial department, growing it from three to six members. Looking ahead, my focus remains on contributing to the continued growth of our business.

What does it mean to be a game-changer?

In my nearly two years at Truman, it’s evident that we offer a unique construction service. Our approach involves getting involved early in projects and collaborating closely with clients and design teams. This strategy allows us to identify potential issues early and propose alternative, more efficient construction methods. Our small but closely-knit team shares a common vision and goals, which I believe is a game-changer in our industry.

What keeps you busy outside of work?

My life outside of work is predominantly family-centered. I spend a lot of time supporting my daughter’s climbing development squad and competitions across the northwest. When I’m not doing that, I’m taking my son to football training or matches. As a family, we love walking in the Peak District and taking breaks in the Lake District and Snowdonia.

I enjoy skiing, playing the bass guitar, and reminiscing about my time lighting up the stage in bands across the years. Headlining Glasto is still a possibility….
