The Flower Bowl, Preston
A roof strong enough for grazing sheep
Client: The Flower Bowl Value: £3m Duration: 40 weeks
The Flower Bowl, near Preston in Lancashire, is a brand new family entertainment venue that opened in 2019.
Following a 40-week build programme, this regional entertainment destination opened with a four-sheet curling rink, luxury ten pin bowling, premium multi-screen cinema, crazy golf courses, state-of-the-art golf simulator and two restaurants.
Next to Barton Grange garden centre, the Flower Bowl has a distinctive undulating green roof to embed it in the landscape.
Our structural engineering and construction management skills were key to completing this complex build safely, within budget and on time.
We worked with Barton Grange and architects Worthington Ashworth Jackson Walker (WAJW) to develop the right concept, design the best solution, and build the steel-framed shell and roof structure. It needed to support the weight of a green roof – and on top of that, the weight of grazing sheep!
The building, complete with bespoke rock cladding, stands out as an example of how we deliver high-quality design and build projects tailored to meet the client brief and solve technical problems.
Completed in September 2018.
