From the bedrock to the Big One

Situated right on the seafront, the beautiful Boulevard Hotel will be one of Blackpool’s most eye-catching buildings.

Due to its location on the coast, the site is positioned on sandy bedrock, which required a unique technical solution.  Our practical design incorporated three key elements in order to make sure the building would stand firm on the soft bedrock: substantial pile foundations, a ground-floor steel frame and a timber frame for the upper levels.

In its prime location, the 120-bed hotel will be a key destination within the town for functions, dining and conferences, supporting Blackpool’s regeneration. What’s more, guests will only be a stone’s throw from the Big One and renowned seaside entertainments.

With a mix of family, executive and deluxe rooms plus a series of lavish suites the Boulevard Hotel will bring a diverse crowd to the Blackpool Promenade. Visitors can settle into the 150-cover Beachside Restaurant, the Ocean Club function space, and a large conference/wedding venue.

To build the hotel, we drove 163 CHD piles into the sandy bedrock ground, topped with a 120-tonne ground-floor steel frame and transfer deck plus a further four storeys of timer frame. The rendered facade has a stone slip cladding finish.

Work has been completed and it will open in July 2019.
